Endoscopic Evaluation of Dyspeptic Patients

Background: Dyspepsia is a common gastrointestinal problems affecting all age groups & social classes.
 Objectives: The purpose of the study was to determine endoscopic findings dyspeptic patients observe demographic characteristics (age, sex, residence, education, socioeconomic condition) presented with dyspepsia.
 Methodology: This cross-sectional conducted at Department Medicine, Rangpur Medical College Hospital, over period 1 year from 1st June 2010 31st May 2011. 150 18 or > years old irrespective sexes and suffering one more five symptoms (flatulence, food intolerance, epigastric pain, heartburn aerophagia) for least 6 months duration were recruited outpatient inpatient department who met inclusion exclusion criteria. Data collected by using structured questionnaire after taking written consent upper GI Endocopy done following meticulous history through physical examination.
 Result: Over one-third (36%) below 30 years, 17% between – 40 old, predominantly rural residents, having primary secondary level education monthly income Taka 10000. Males females ratio 2:1. More than half (50.6%) smoker, 32.7% had habit tea, 10% tobacco chewing rest 6.7% used take spicy meal.. Epigastric discomfort, flatulence complaints in both male but vomiting proportionately higher dyspeptics compared female dyspeptics. Common associated like constipation weight loss equally sexes. Upper endoscopy revealed 17.3% 11.5% abnormal findings.Others included gastric ulcer, gastritis duodenal ulcers (17.6 vs. 33.3%; 23.6 50% 17.6 16.7% respectively). Majority (nearly 90% either sex) does not show any lesions on examination hence can be considered as non-ulcer Conclusion: concludes that majority dyspepsia have no lesion mucosa dyspepsia. also suggest disease young early middle aged people males being likely develop females.
